12月19日に日本大学にて行われました、Dr.Fauziah Abdul Karrimの講演会のご報告です。
彼女はマレーシアの厚生省で働いている医師の方で、「Islamic Medical Principles, Ethics and Care of the Musulim Patient（イスラムの方に対する医療の原則～イスラム教徒の患者に対する倫理とケア～）」と題した講演は、私たちにとって勉強になり刺激を受けるものでした。
イスラム教徒の患者さんと出会ったときに重要なことは、彼らがイスラム教徒だという認識を持ち、患者さんの理解を確認することと、何が許されているのかを伺うことだそうです。
特に感銘を受けたことは、イスラム教徒が必ず守らなければならない「hygiene-related rules(衛生状態に関するルール)」というものを知ったことです。例えば腋毛や陰毛、鼻孔をきれいにしておくなどがそれにあたります。

Dr.Fauziah Abdul Karrim who works for the Ministry of Health (Malaysia) kindly delivered an informative and provocative lecture on “Islamic Medical Principles, Ethics and Care of the Musulim Patient”.
She mentioned that the important points when you encounter Muslim patients were to recognize them as Muslims, confirm the patients’ understanding and ask for their permissions.
Personally speaking, I was impressed by the “hygiene-related rules” that Muslims have to follow including the removal of armpit and pubic hair, keeping nostrils clean.
